چکیده

We compared two edge-blending methods for multiprojection displays, elliptic and rectangular blending, by simulating three common situations: (1) an inaccurately estimated calibration parameter, (2) a worn projector lamp, and (3) a shifted viewpoint. We used a twolevel-of-detail display including a high-gain rear-projection screen in the simulation to demonstrate an extreme case. The comparisons showed how strongly inaccurate elements affect a composite besides affecting the appearance itself. A subjective assessment was also carried out to obtain the evaluations of actual users. The simulation results showed that in many cases elliptic blending is more effective than rectangular blending. key words: multi-projection display, edge blending, elliptic blending, locally pre-normalizing Laplacian filter

Immersive full-surround multi-user system design

This paper describes our research in full-surround, multimodal, multi-user, immersive instrument design in a large VR instrument. The three-story instrument, designed for large-scale, multimodal representation of complex and potentially high-dimensional information, specifically focuses on multi-user participation by facilitating interdisciplinary teams of co-located researchers in exploring co...

Buckling Analysis of Rectangular Functionally Graded Plates with an Elliptic Hole Under Thermal Loads

This paper presents thermal buckling analysis of rectangular functionally graded plates (FG plates) with an eccentrically located elliptic cutout. The plate governing equations derived by the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and finite element formulation is developed to analyze the plate behavior subjected to a uniform temperature rise across plate thickness. It is assumed that the ...

On the Implementation of Mixed Methodsas Nonconforming Methodsfor Second Order Elliptic

In this paper we show that mixed nite element methods for a fairly general second order elliptic problem with variable coeecients can be given a non-mixed formulation. (Lower order terms are treated, so our results apply also to parabolic equations.) We deene an approximation method by incorporating some projection operators within a standard Galerkin method, which we call a projection nite ele...

Creating effective focus cues in multi-plane 3D displays

Focus cues are incorrect in conventional stereoscopic displays. This causes a dissociation of vergence and accommodation, which leads to visual fatigue and perceptual distortions. Multi-plane displays can minimize these problems by creating nearly correct focus cues. But to create the appearance of continuous depth in a multi-plane display, one needs to use depth-weighted blending: i.e., distri...
